About:

I grew up and graduated from Walker-Hackensack High School in Walker, Minnesota, but have lived in Bottineau for the last 31 years. I am married to my husband, Jay, and we farm south of Bottineau near Gardena. We have two grown children, Nicholas and Zachary, who both graduated from Bottineau and are electrical engineers. I was in radio and newspaper for many years, but decided to go back to school and get my English Education degree at the age of 47. This is my second full year of teaching at BHS. I have a zero hour Journalism class where we are responsible for publishing the school paper “The Chippewa.” I also teach English/Language Arts to the seventh and eighth grade students in Bottineau. In my spare time, I like to travel, read, spend time with my family at the lake, and ride both my bikes (a pedal one and a Harley).

It was also nice to see how polite and well-behaved all six students I took were to adults, instructors, hotel staff, taxi drivers, and other students in the competition. While at the convention, the students...

I am proud to say that “The Chippewa” has been named the top Overall Newspaper in Division II for the 2nd year in a row. We had some tough competition from schools like Devils Lake and Beulah, but we took first place in the divisions of Coverage, as well as Writing & Editing, which put us in front of the other papers. Since the year is from February to February, some of our last year seniors won awards, as well as many of our members from this year. In all we won 23 individual awards. Individual winners...

“The Chippewa” newspaper has won first place at the State Journalism Contest. We are officially ranked the “Best Overall Newspaper” in Division II (which means we have less than 750 students) in the state. We achieved this by taking first in 3 of the 4 judging categories, including: Writing and Editing, Graphic Presentation, and Business Operations. Individually, the staff won another 23 awards, including: First place awards for Erin Severson, Emmalie Munson (2), Laura EllenBrandjord, and Ashleigh Jerde (2); Second...
