Notes from the Superintendent

Dear Patrons,

The first month of school has come and gone. This fall has brought a much different temperature than last year, fortunately it was much cooler. Hopefully, this weather pattern will continue.

In the past, the month of October has been set aside for the State Assessment Test. This is the test used to determine a school districts Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). This test has now changed to Smarter Balance and will be given at a different time. Grades 4, 8, and 11 will take the science portion during the October 20th to November 7th testing window. Grades 3-8 and 11 will take the reading and math portion in the spring of the year.

I would also like to remind everyone to take advantage of PowerSchool. This feature allows you to check on items regarding your children’s grades, attendance, and lunch accounts. If you are new to the district or have simply forgotten how to sign on, please go to the school website and click on the PowerSchool link. This is located under Parent/Student Resources at the top of the page.

Last spring, the Title I review committee met. This committee consists of three Title I teachers and myself. This meeting is held annually. The committee discusses how the Title I allocations for the next school year will be spent. You may obtain a copy of these minutes by contacting the school. I would like to remind parents of the “Parents Right-to-Know Clause”. This clause mandates school districts to keep an up-to-date list of both teachers and paraprofessionals. This list shows their position, degree, and whether or not they are highly qualified. All of the Bottineau Public school staff meet the state qualifications. This information can be obtained by contacting the high school office at 228-2266.

The district will be using Alert Now as our parent notification system. The main reason for the change is the system works in conjunction with Power School. Alert Now will send messages to the phone number of the parent listed in the Power School. Parents can add additional numbers, e-mails, or text to be notified. This can be done by going through your Power School account. All you need to do is log into your Power School account, click on power announcement, and enter your information. If you have questions please call the high school office at 228-2266.

The key fob system for entering the buildings is now in working order. The doors will be locked during the school day. Any visitor coming to the school during the day will be asked to use door 13 or door 14 to enter the Jr/Sr High school (south end of the building) and Door 4 to enter the Middle School (North side of the building). I would like to thank everyone for their patience while the system was installed. The cameras installed in our buses are now fully functional.
