Notes from the Superintendent

Dear Patrons,

The month of October has now come and gone. The weather for the most part, has been very good. I hope the nice fall weather continues in the winter months.

The state testing used in determining Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) has changed for the 2014-2015 school year. In the past, the state testing was completed in the fall for grades 3-8 and grade 11. This year the test will be given in the spring. Grades 4, 8, and 11 will take the science portion this fall. This portion is not included when determining AYP. The district is currently on Program Improvement, the district must provide our lowest achieving students the opportunity to receive additional instruction in reading and math beyond the regular school day. These instructional services are called Supplemental Services. Additional information can be obtained on our website.

The first nine weeks ended on Friday, October 24th. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Tuesday, October 28th and Tuesday, November 4th, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The K-6 conferences will be conducted the same as past years. Parents will have scheduled conferences with K-6 teachers. The 7-12 November 4th conference will be an open house from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Food will be served and teachers will be available for conferences. All are invited to attend.

The Bottineau School District had a Child Nutrition Review on Thursday, October 9th. The purpose of the review was to ensure compliance with federal regulations and provide technical assistance. The federally mandated administrative review process consists of two performance standards 1) Free/reduced price meal applications, claim for reimbursement, system for counting and recording meals; and 2) meal components. These were discussed at the time of the review. The review went very well. There were many complements regarding our hot lunch program at Bottineau. The letter regarding our review can be found on the school website.

The month of November brings days in which we have no school and an early out. There will be an early out on Friday, November 7th. Buses will leave Central School at 12:30 p.m. with the buses leaving the Middle School at 12:45 p.m. to take the students home. Our staff will be participating in a Professional Development activity. There will also be no school on Monday, November 10th (Parent/Teacher Comp. Day) and Tuesday, November 11 to observe Veteran’s Day. There will be no school on November 27th and 28h to observe Thanksgiving.

From my family to yours, have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend!!
