Notes from the Superintendent

Dear Patrons,

School is off and running. We have completed the first month of school and things are going well. Other than one week, the temperatures have been conducive to quality learning.

The State Assessment Test for grades 3-8 and 11 in math and reading will be taken in the spring of 2016. This test is used in determining a school districts Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Information regarding the school districts AYP is included in this packet . Please take a moment to read through this information. Grades 4,8, and 11 are required to take a science portion. The science test is taken during the October 19th to November 6th testing window.

I would also like to remind everyone to take advantage of PowerSchool. This feature allows you to check on items regarding your children’s grades, attendance, and lunch accounts. If you are new to the district or have simply forgotten how to sign on, please go to the school website and click on PowerSchool, which is located at the top of the page.

Last spring, the Title I review committee met. This committee consists of three Title I teachers and myself. This meeting is held annually. The committee discusses how the Title I allocations for the next school year will be spent. You may obtain a copy of these minutes by contacting the school. I would like to remind parents of the “Parents Right-to-Know Clause”. This clause mandates school districts to keep an up-to-date list of both teachers and paraprofessionals. This list shows their position, degree, and whether or not they are highly qualified. All of the Bottineau Public school staff meet the state qualifications. This information can be obtained by contacting the high school office at 228-2266.

The district has changed our parent notification from Alert Now to Blackboard. Blackboard does work in conjunction with PowerSchool. Blackboard will send messages to the phone

number of the parent listed in PowerSchool. Parents can add additional numbers, emails, or can have text set up to be notified. This can be done by going to our website (www.bottineau.k12.nd.us) and clicking on the Parent Link (alert system) tab. This will take you to a page requiring your Login ID and password. This information was mailed at the beginning of the school year. The district has an application available to individuals having an iPhone or Android. The application is BPS (Bottineau Public School). This app is an excellent way of receiving notification. This app also has many other informative items to ensure parents know what is going on within the school on a daily basis. If you have any questions regarding Blackboard or the BPS app, please call the high school office at 228-2266.

The key fob system for entering the buildings will be used again this year. The doors will be locked during the school day. Any visitor coming to the school during the day will be asked to use the buzzers at door 13 or door 14 to enter the Jr/Sr High school (south end of the building) and Door 4 to enter the Middle School (north side of the building).
